CS 3733 Operating Systems Daily Log Book

You will acquire a composition book for use with this course. You may purchase one from the UTSA bookstore or most stores that sell office supplies. You will bring the composition book to each class.

The composition book should have about 100 sheets. The pages must be fixed - it should not be possible to add pages to the book. The book will be used only for this course.

Entries in this book must be made in pen, not pencil.

Put your name and course number on the front cover of the book.

Number the sheets of the book consecutively as you use them. Put the page number in the upper right corner of the right side of each sheet. The first sheet should be be number 1. Sheet number 1 will be used for a table of contents. Put the following list (one per line) near the top of sheet 1:
       Assignment 0
       Assignment 1
       Assignment 2
       Assignment 3
       Assignment 4
       Assignment 5

You will make entries in this book during each class period.
When you come into class, start a new sheet of the book (you may write on both sides). On the top line, write the word "Lecture" followed by the lecture number and the date.
You can find the lectures numbers for each class in the Daily Class Schedule.

During each class you will be making entries in this book. Instructions will be given in class.

Do not use this book for general note taking.

You will also make entries for each assignment. Start a new sheet for the entries for each assignment and put its page number in the table of contents. Entries for the assignments will be done concurrently with the ones for the lecture. If you run out of room for the entries of a class or an assignment, put a statement of the form:
Continued on sheet number x
at the bottom of the page. Do this even if you continue to the next page in sequence.

Do not remove pages from the book. If you do not want to use a page, just put a single diagonal line through it.

For each lecture you will add an entry to the corresponding page in your log describing one important thing you learned in class. This entry should include a date and time and must be inserted at least 2 hours after the end of the class and before the start of the next class. If you didn't learn anything important, choose something discussed in class that you already knew.
